What happens when you refuse to choose between your career and your education? You get a year like Renniel’s.
This month marks his one-year anniversary with Scale-Up Philippines. But behind the scenes, he was managing an even more demanding challenge: completing his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering Degree from Dr. Yanga’s Colleges, Inc.
Finding a Way to Finish College
Like many Filipino students, Renniel’s college journey came with financial challenges.
“I had to work to support my studies. I started as a freelance ESL tutor while I was in college, and it became the first job that helped me pay for school.”
Freelancing helped him earn money, but the income was not always stable. Renniel knew he needed a more consistent opportunity.
That’s when he discovered Scale-Up Philippines.
Taking a Chance as a Student Applicant
Like many applicants, he’s worried.
“I wasn’t sure if I could do it or if they would even accept someone who was still studying. But despite all those doubts, I decided to try.”
After successfully passing the initial and final interviews, he was quickly pooled for a client interview. Unfortunately, his first client interview didn’t go as planned.
“I felt disappointed because I really needed a job at that time. A new academic year was about to begin, and I still had school balances that I needed to settle before I could enroll.”
A week later, when Scale-Up Philippines reached out again, he successfully passed the interview and became part of the Scale-Up Philippines team.
Balancing Work and School
Working while pursuing a degree is never easy.
For an entire year, Renniel balanced deadlines, client responsibilities, classes, projects, examinations, and countless sleepless nights.
“I truly appreciate the support and consideration that Scale-Up Philippines gave me while I was balancing work and school. I’m especially grateful for the understanding and support shown by my managers and client, as it made a significant difference and allowed me to continue pursuing both my education and career.”
